FAQS
HAVE QUESTIONS? WE HAVE ANSWERS!-
The sport of roller derby has its origins in the banked-track roller-skating marathons of the 1930s. Over the years, the sport has gone through changes, with many modern roller derby leagues playing on a flat track. This makes roller derby more accessible to many leagues, as the track is taped down in a venue, and can be simply pulled up after the event is over.

As with any sport or physical activity you do, there are risks of injury. This is why we start new skaters off by teaching them skating basics to build a foundation of strength and stability prior to introducing contact. Once you are cleared to start playing the sport, there are rules in place for your safety. Rules include how, when, and where contact can be made (for example, skaters cannot make contact to opponents' heads, backs, knees, lower legs, or feet.) In addition, all safety gear is required while playing. These include knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards, helmet, and a mouth guard.

No. We will teach you! Many current derby players started out not knowing how to skate. New skaters will learn fundamentals like stopping, falling safely, transitions, skating backwards, etc. prior to doing any type of contact. Your safety is our top priority.
